welcome

Hi, welcome to the website of Iljitsch van Beijnum. I'm a freelance network specialist and writer in the Netherlands. Yes, you can hire me to help you with your routing, IPv6, debugging of network problems or performance and more. Modern technology and tax treaties allow me to work on your network remotely if necessary. Or maybe you'd be interested in my "BGP for ISPs" course, organized in association with the NL-ix.

Just browsing, but want to know more about BGP and IPv6? See my website BGPexpert.com.

ars technica

Since february, I've been writing regularly for Ars Technica, mainly about the Mac for Infinite Loop. See my author page for a list of what I've written recently. These are my Ars Technica articles about IPv6:

cell phones are everywhere

Girl on horse on the beach talking on the phone Here in the Netherlands, it's illegal to drive a car and talk on the phone without a hands free set. I'm not sure if this applies to riding a horse on the beach...

IPv6 routing tutorial

At the RIPE meeting in october I presented a tutorial about IPv6 routing. Have a look at my slides or go to the RIPE 53 Meeting Archive where under the "webcast" link you can download a 200 MB MPEG4 video file of the presentation. Unfortunately, the audio and video quality is rather poor.

Running IPv6 book cover

my book running ipv6

I wrote a second book! This one is called "Running IPv6" and it's about... running IPv6 on various operating systems (Windows XP, MacOS X, FreeBSD, Linux) and routers (Cisco, Juniper). Check out my new website about running IPv6 for more information.

background

For the past 10 years, I've been working on IP networks of all shapes and sizes, especially in the area of routing in general and interdomain routing and BGP in particular. The past few years I've also developed an interest in IPv6.

Since 2001 I've been active within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), especially within the Multihoming in IPv6 (multi6) working group, which is now replaced by the shim6 working group.

my old book

'BGP', by Iljitsch van Beijnum In 2002, O'Reilly published my book "BGP, Building Reliable Networks Using the Border Gateway Protocol". See this page for more information and links to reviews and the sample chapter. There is now a Japanese translation.
